For the first part of this unit you need to be able to ''draw, describe and explain the use and siting of instruments at a weather station.

Why is temperature an important element of weather?

Explain how each of the following factors affect temperature - Sunshine, time and local geography - for the local geography elements please illustrate your answers with a simple diagram/picture to help you remember.

You need to be able to draw, explain and label each of the weather measuring instruments (rain gauge, maximum and minimum thermometer +, wet and dry bulb thermometer +, barometer +, + anemometer and wind vane +). For each of them you also have to be able to explain how it operates and the scale used as well as explaining the optimum siting for each of them.
