Year 11 Web enquiry - Weather, Climate and Vegetation


For the first part of this unit you need to be able to ''draw, describe and explain the use and siting of instruments at a weather station.

Use the following links to fill in the questions on worksheet.

Why is temperature an important element of weather?
Explain how each of the following factors affect temperature - Sunshine, time and local geography - for the local geography elements please illustrate your answers with a simple diagram/picture to help you remember.

There are some linked ideas on this page, draw a flow diagram and add detail to it.
You need to be able to draw, explain and label each of the weather measuring instruments (rain gauge, maximum and minimum thermometer +, wet and dry bulb thermometer +, barometer +, + anemometer and wind vane +). For each of them you also have to be able to explain how it operates and the scale used as well as explaining the optimum siting for each of them. Consider including details about their limitations as well. Use the links to add detail to your table. + indicates that there is another link relating to this instrument.

Here are some links that will help you prepare for the in-class report you are going to write. Remember Victor needs you to suggest which methods of precaution and prediction you would use. He needs you to justify your choices and to use an annotated map of the area to help you explain where and why you are going to position them.
Extra research used effectively will gain you extra marks.
